The statue of the Golden Stag was inaugurated at a ceremony in the garden of the Central Bank of Hungary’s Supervisory Centre and Money Museum. The statue symbolizes renewal, guidance, the search for abundance and happiness, is a symbol of the mission of the Money Museum and the development of financial awareness.
The Money Museum, which opened this spring, aims to provide insight into the world of money. In the year of its opening, the institution has already welcomed more than 62,000 visitors, and has hosted numerous events, competitions and conferences for students and families.
The symbol of the Money Museum is the Golden Stag, which symbolizes renewal, upliftment, and abundance, and is also connected to the value-creating mission of the institution and the meaning of money. The motif of the Golden Stag appeared as the logo of the Money Museum already in spring, and it can also be seen several times in the building while journeying upon the visitor route.
The statue was created by the domestically and internationally renowned sculptor Gábor Miklós Szőke. In Szőke’s art, motifs from the animal kingdom and the connection of the visual world captured through symbols and the underlying message system have always played a major role.
"My statue is not an anatomical representation of a deer, but a stylized figure. I depicted the supernatural being in a movement that does not exist in nature, its front legs face forward, as if swimming in the sky, as it leaps from the top of the rock that represents the earthly sphere." The antlers of the deer are made of polished bronze casting, and its body consists of thousands of plates of golden hair bent in bronze. In terms of parameters, the pedestal is more than 6 meters, while the deer standing on it reaches a height of 5 meters, the statue weighs more than 15 tons.
In the Central Bank of Hungary’s value-preserving and value-creating work, the protection of Hungarian cultural heritage and the enhancement of national cultural values play a key role. The sculptures exhibited as part of the Money Museum are related to this value-creating activity.
