In 2023, the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) joined forces with famous French pastry chef Pierre Herme, aka the Macaron King, to delight coin collectors with something truly artistic.
The macaron-shaped coin is a tribute to artisanal and artistic cakes. It is the first non-flat coin of the Paris Mint with the initials PH and RF, the abbreviation of the French Republic, intertwined.
As is known, the macaron is the most well-known cake of the French people, and the most famous creator of the genre is Pierre Hermé, who was voted the best pastry chef in the world in 2016. In the same year, Vanity Fair brought him to fourth place on their list of the 50 most influential Frenchmen in the world. In addition, Hermé's efforts to develop gastronomy have been repeatedly recognized by the French state.
