The holiday is an opportunity to thank all those who give their selfless contribution to save lives. It is an event that draws attention not only to the important members of the health system, but also to the organisations that help, to the historical figures of the system and to the importance of social responsibility.
Paediatrics also counts on blood donors
The Hungarian Society of Paediatricians (MGYT) plays a prominent role in the development of children's healthcare. The organisation stresses that blood products are also lifesaving in children's hospitals, especially for children with serious illnesses such as haematopoietic disorders. Over the past century, they have helped to save or cure the health of around 15 million children. Blood donors play a big part in this!
Blood transport
It is part of the daily work of the Hungarian National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) to ensure that blood products are delivered to hospitals and emergency sites, and of course that they arrive on time. The ambulance service pays particular attention to ensuring that the life-saving blood donated by blood donors gets to where it is needed most as quickly as possible. On the Hungarian Blood Donors' Day, the OMSZ thanks those who support their work by donating blood.
Women and healing
Vilma Hugonnai, Hungary's first female doctor, is a symbol of selfless help and the medical profession. Her career shows that women can play an active role in the development of society and health care. Hugonnai's pioneering spirit continues to inspire those working in medicine today and sets an example for solidarity and community responsibility among blood donors.
The social importance of donating blood
The importance of blood donation lies not only in saving individual lives, but also in helping to keep families together. A parent, sibling or child saved through an emergency transfusion is a source of hope not only for the individual, but for the family as a whole. The Hungarian Blood Donors' Day is therefore also a celebration of family protection, as blood donors contribute to the survival of the most important social unit, the family.
UNICEF Hungary: supporting children's rights and healthcare
Unicef Hungary has been working for decades to protect children's rights and ensure access to health care. Although the organisation is mainly known for its international programmes, its presence in Hungary underlines that safeguarding children's health is crucial for future generations. Unicef frequently raises awareness of the importance of blood donations and life-saving health interventions, especially for vulnerable groups.
Appreciation and recognition
On Hungarian Blood Donors' Day, we thank all those who contribute to saving the lives of their fellow human beings by donating blood. It is a day to remind us that selfless help brings us all together and contributes to building a stronger, more caring society. Let us be proud that in Hungary, too, many people choose to donate blood as one of the noblest ways to save lives.
Give blood, give life - because every drop counts!
