An exhibition entitled “From the Kossuth Banknote to the Forint” will open at the Kállay Collection in Nyíregyháza, where 100 years of coins will be on display on the occasion of the Central Bank of Hungary’s 100th anniversary.
14th of June, 2024 in Nyíregyháza: The temporary exhibition not only presents the currencies issued since the establishment of the Central Bank of Hungary, but also the metal and paper money of the previous eras, from the Kossuth banknotes of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence to the Austro-Hungarian forint and crown, and the pengo. The series continues with the forint, introduced in 1946, thus giving a historical arc to 100 years of currency. The Money Museum contributed 158 objects to the exhibition.
The Kállay House, home of the Kállay Collection, was built by Dr. Rudolf Kállay, the hospital director whose son Tibor Kállay was the finance minister of the Bethlen government. It was during his reign that the establishment of the Central Bank of Hungary in 1924 was prepared, and as the central bank turned 100 years old in May this year, the temporary exhibition is a tribute to the centenary and a tribute to the work of Tibor Kállay, the Minister of Finance.
