The Money Museum receives the highest possible recognition as a community museum

The 23rd of May 2024 in Budapest: the Money Museum has won the Community Museum Award again this year. The award recognises the museum's active involvement of local residents and civil communities in its work and the way it shapes its educational activities by listening to their views.

In 2022, the new definition of museums adopted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) set out the expectation that museums should be community-based. Museums awarded this recognition "operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with community participation. In 2019, the Open-Air Museum of Ethnography - Museum Education and Methodology Centre (MOKK) initiated the introduction of the title "Community Museum" to recognise the community-based operation of Hungarian museums. A total of 39 Hungarian museums have been awarded the title so far. This year, only 4 more museums, including the Money Museum, have been awarded Level IV alone, after last year's Level II.

The Money Museum - which has attracted 220 000 visitors since its opening on the 15th of March in 2022 - pays particular attention to visitor feedback. It takes a conscious, ongoing, and active approach to the development of its communities, with their practical input and their opinions, whether it's through museum education sessions, the development of temporary exhibitions or the development of financial quizzes.

The Money Museum and Visitor Center is open every day of the week, with occasional special open days. The next open day is scheduled for the 26th of May. It will be Children's Day at the Money Museum, when museum staff will offer a taste of the community experience.

The Money Museum offers experiences not only for visitors thirsting for knowledge, but also for those who want to spend time in one of Budapest's elevated locations. The museum's Panoramic Terrace is a great place to relax, take in the city's pulse and the great view as well.
