The path of money

The path of money

In our exhibition, which can be viewed for free, the Money Museum has organized its spaces around the five functions of money, helping us to understand our own involvement and the role of the central bank in the exciting, simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar world of finance. In the individual spaces, we can experience the issue of personal finances through a decision-making game, which is completed by a historical and financial perspective, a presentation of the functions of the central bank and numismatic content.

After logging in, our adventure begins in the Gold Mine! By logging in, you can try out the exciting contents of the interactive knowledge base, or you can get acquainted with the heyday of precious metal mining in Hungary and the tools used to extract gold.

The main question of node I is: What would show the value of things if there was no money? We don't even realize how many times a day we use money as a measure of value for comparing, referencing, evaluating and preparing decisions.

In node II, in connection with the function of money as a means of circulation, we examine why the form of money has changed. What is required to recognize a currency as money?

The history of money is intertwined to the history of banks. Node III examines the function of money as a means of payment. The provocative question of the node is: "What if there were no banks?" so we can examine the role of financial intermediaries, and it as at this point where the past, present and complex activities of the central bank, which embodies "invisible security", unfold before us.

"Money opens doors to the world." This single thought and experience refer to the role of world currencies in Node IV. Our ever-globalizing world shows us the renewable role of money in our personal, everyday lives at countless points.

In Node V, money dazzles us in its treasure-forming role, showing us the many forms and interpretations of values and treasures.
